E-Core Ignition Coil, 8mm Silicone Wires & Spark Plugs
Steps 12-volt battery power up to 40,000 volts through magnetic field collapse and fires six copper-core resistor spark plugs.
Role in the System
What This Assembly Is
This group combines the high-energy laminated E-core ignition coil (Motorcraft DG-470) and mounting bracket, the 8mm silicone suppression spark plug wires and routing separators, and the six resistor spark plugs threaded into the combustion chambers.
Mechanics & Physics
How the Subcomponents Work Together
Inductive Step-Up Physics (Faraday’s Law): Inside the epoxy-potted E-core ignition coil, a heavy-gauge primary copper winding of ~100 turns is surrounded by a fine-wire secondary winding of ~10,000 turns around a laminated silicon-steel core. During the "dwell" period, the TFI module grounds the primary winding, saturating the iron core with a strong magnetic field. At the exact microsecond spark is commanded, the TFI transistor snaps open—collapsing the magnetic field across the 100:1 secondary turns ratio and inducing up to 40,000 volts to ionize the 0.044-inch spark plug gap.
