Role in the System

What This Assembly Is

At all four corners of the 1994 F-150 XLT sit the factory 15 × 7.5-inch chrome styled steel wheels with Argent painted spoke pockets, bright center hub caps with black centers, five 1/2"-20 conical-seat lug nuts on Ford’s classic 5 × 5.5-inch (139.7 mm) truck bolt circle, and P235/75R15XL all-terrain radial tires.

Mechanics & Physics

How the Subcomponents Work Together

Hub-Centric & Conical Lug Clamping: Tightening the five 1/2"-20 conical-seat lug nuts to 100 ft-lb stretches the wheel studs like stiff springs, clamping the steel wheel disc firmly against the rotor/drum mounting face so all driving, braking, and cornering forces are transmitted through friction across the hub flange rather than shearing the studs.
