Clutch & Hydraulic Release System

11-Inch Torsional-Damper Clutch Driven Disc

Waved Marcel cushion springs for silky engagement and coaxial coil dampers that filter engine firing spikes.

Role in the System

What This Assembly Is

Trapped between the flywheel and pressure plate is the 280 mm (11-inch) driven disc, splined directly onto the 10-spline transmission input shaft. Though it looks like a simple friction disc from the outside, it is a sophisticated two-stage mechanical shock absorber.

Mechanics & Physics

How the Subcomponents Work Together

Stage 1 — Axial Cushioning (Waved Marcel Segments): The front and rear organic friction facings aren’t riveted to a flat plate; they are riveted to eight waved, spring-steel "Marcel" paddles around the outer rim. As you let the clutch pedal up, those waves flatten gradually over ~1.2 mm of travel, giving you a wide, progressive friction zone instead of a jerky on/off grab.

Stage 2 — Rotational Damping (Coaxial Torsion Springs): Once clamped, torque flows inward from the outer carrier plate into four window slots containing nested outer and inner coil springs. The outer plate can twist several degrees relative to the inner 10-spline hub, compressing the coil springs and rubbing internal friction washers to absorb crankshaft firing pulses before they can rattle the transmission gears.
