CU1454 Crossflow Radiator, Shroud, Tank & Coolant Hoses
Aluminum-core crossflow heat exchanger, 13-psi pressure cap, molded fan shroud, and EPDM radiator/heater hoses.
Role in the System
What This Assembly Is
Supported in the front core support is the CU1454 crossflow radiator with molded nylon side tanks, a 13-psi pressure relief cap, a full-perimeter fan shroud, the combination coolant overflow / windshield washer reservoir, and the upper, lower, and cabin heater EPDM hoses.
Mechanics & Physics
How the Subcomponents Work Together
Why Pressurizing the Radiator Prevents Boiling: At atmospheric pressure, pure water boils at 212°F. By sealing the cooling system under a 13-psi spring-loaded radiator cap (roughly 1.9 atmospheres absolute) with a 50/50 ethylene glycol mix, the boiling point jumps to over 260°F—preventing localized steam pockets from forming on the scorching cast-iron exhaust port walls inside the cylinder head.
