Clutch & Hydraulic Release System

Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC), Release Bearing & Quill

Coaxial annular hydraulic actuator that slides directly around the transmission input quill—eliminating external release forks.

Role in the System

What This Assembly Is

Inside the bellhousing, bolted directly over the cast-iron front bearing retainer quill tube of the M5OD-R2, sits the Concentric Slave Cylinder (CSC). It integrates a die-cast aluminum hydraulic cylinder, an annular (ring-shaped) piston with an EPDM lip seal, a conical preload spring, and a sealed angular-contact release ball bearing into a single unit.

Mechanics & Physics

How the Subcomponents Work Together

Coaxial Hydraulic Push: The transmission input shaft passes right through the hollow center of the CSC. When hydraulic fluid enters from the master cylinder, pressure builds in the ring-shaped chamber behind the lip seal, driving the annular piston straight forward along the quill tube with zero side-loading.

Constant-Contact Release Bearing: A light conical coil spring under the accordion dust boot keeps the release bearing’s rotating outer race lightly kissing the 18 diaphragm spring fingers at all times. That means there is zero free-play adjustment required as the clutch disc wears thinner over its service life.
